Perks of being a muggle

Summer was almost ending and Petunia's classes were about to begin. She was about to start ninth year, but her sister was not going along with her. Lily as some kind of freak that does...magic. It sounded absurd, but she really was a witch and studied at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where she started at the age of 11 along with that weird boy, Severus Snape.
Petunia hated magic. Hated. Those wizards think they are better than we are? They are just freaks! But nobody thought like she did. Her parents, always worshiping Lily and didn't even care for Petunia, she was always her sister's shadow. People who knew Lily was a witch were always idolising her! Their parents, their whole family and even friends! And that weird boy, Snape?
Why would she fall to a freak like him?
The fact is she liked Severus. Very much. His oily hair and baggy clothes didn't match 'magic greatness'. She liked him because he resembled herself: they were both abandoned and unwanted. He was sweet with Lily, but then again, he was another one of her long list of victims that fall deeply in love with her.
They were one year younger, yet they seemed so much stronger than herself. Petunia secretly watched Severus and Lily making small spells. She hated spells. She hated Lily.
One day, while she was watching on the top of a small tree Lily and Severus making magic, Lily went home, but Snape stayed there, all alone. He sat on the grass and started to observe his surroundings, when he suddenly realized a strange shadow in the tree Petunia was on top.
"P-Petunia?"
Oh no! Petunia was so scared for being caught that she fell of the tree.
"Ouch, ouch, my back!"
"For Merlin! Are you ok?"
Snape rushed to help Petunia, who couldn't move.
" I don't know, it is hurting so bad!"
She said while tears were streaming down her face.
" I am not supposed to do that, but no one really pays attention on what i do"
Severus whispered some strange words and Petunia's back relaxed. She sat, still dizzy.
" Wow, the pain disappeared!"
"It is just temporary, we still didn't learn healing spells, i just studied this one by myself so it won't be so efficient. I suggest you go to a doctor later."
"Really, i am so much better now. No doctor needed, thank you!
Petunia opened a big smile and hugged him. Severus turned red and laughed nervously. 'This is so perfect'- Petunia thought.
"Go to a doctor, Petunia. And for Merlin's beard, why were you on the top of that tree?"
"I don't need any doctor!"
"Why?!"
"Because....because they will ask."
"Ask what?"
"How did i hurt my back."
"You fell from a tree."
"Yes...this tree. Where Lily was near about ten minutes ago."
"What were you doing up there?"
To see you making wonders, she wanted to say. Instead of that, she said:
"To...to...to see what two freaks do!"
The boy's eyes got bigger and with rage in his expression he got up in his feet.
"You dare...? A muggle saying those words!"
Muggle. She also hated that word. Petunia hated a lot of things.
" Why are you so mean? I know what muggle means!"
" What? You are mean! Calling me and your own sister freaks, and muggle is not even a bad word!"
"Oh really, so you don't think wizards are better than muggles?"
He gasped. Most people of Slytherin house would answer yes, and Severus was about to do it so. He really thought they were better than muggles. But he noticed those sad eyes with tears and said:
"Go to a doctor, Petunia. Your back is going to get worse. Bye"
" You didn't answer my question? What do you think, huh? If i were a witch, i wouldn't need to go to a doctor. If i were a witch, my parents would noticed me. If I were a wizard, you would notice me! Why i am not a wizard? Why?"
Petunia was now crying desperately and ran away. She ran until she got home. Than she ran a little more until she reached her small room and closed the door. Than she lied down in her bed and started to cry again. Why Lily? Why not her? This wasn't fair.
Petunia suddenly started looking for a letter that she received as a response some years ago. She found it under her bed and started reading one more time:

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, July 1972

Dear Petunia Evans,
You probably used your sister's owl to send this letter and i am deeply thankful for you action. It takes a great account of bravery to write the letter that you wrote me, you certainly would attend Gryffindor's house if you attended Hogwarts.
We all have magic within us, however, people tend to show different kinds og magic. Wizards show spells and charms. Muggles have a very unique and underrated type of magic: imagination.
Unfortunately, wizards are stuck in the 17 century and always trusting only spells. Muggles are constantly changing the world, trying to make a better life despite the unknowing of wizard magic. Always creating and thinking new ideas, the muggle world not only interests muggleborns, such as your sister, but great wizards. Any wizard who says the contrary is worth of pity, really.
Although as i explained there are different kinds of magic, not only muggles and wizards, but eventually you will learn that every living being are magical in their way, Hogwarts School only accepts wizards to teach them how to control their magic.
Remember, being a muggle is nothing but a honor, you will experiment things in life that a wizard never will and vice versa.
My best regards,
Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster, Order of Merlin, First Class, Grand Sorc., Chf. Warlock,Supreme Mugwump, International Confed. of Wizards

When Petunia finished to read the letter, she wasn't crying anymore.
"Bastards."
"Abnormals"
"Primates"
For that moment on, she didn't envy them anymore, She was disgusted by wizards. Those people have the nerve to feel superior, when they are only freaks! Petunia swore she would live the most normal life she could. And she lived. Years passed and she married the most ordinary man, and they had the most ordinary and ugly son. Petunia never really understood Dumbledore's letter, when that baby with a scar in his forehead and her sister's eyes came, she continued hating wizards. But for a moment, when times were dark as they could be, and that baby who became a man was saying his final goodbyes to the Dursley family, she remembered the Headmaster words. And Petunia Dursley began to understand.
