the gears creak against each other, but because the small scale of the watch, it is barely audible. they shudder to a stop. 11:11

the LED flickers, teetering on the precipice between two moments. it stops flickering and shines brightly, proudly displaying the first moment. 11:11

the kids sit and wait patiently for their lunch dismissal. everyone’s eyes were glued to the clock as it waits for them. 11:11

big ben loomed above him as he scurried to work, so caught up in the imminent meeting that he didn’t even notice that the massive timepiece had come to a halt. 11:11

she was supposed to call him at half past eleven to report her decision. he stared at the phone, waiting, wondering how this moment seemed so infinite. little did he know, the hands of the clock behind him were immobile. 11:11

i’ll do it at noon. he thought. but instead of writing his apologies on paper, he took his time,  writing them in his mind, because the numbers on the digital clock behind him were unchanging. 11:11

instead of giving him a kiss, she had slapped him and left the grotesquely gorgeous scent of her hand on his face. he sat with his head between his knees and watched the clock freeze, wishing he could do the same to his life. 11:11

the exam was supposed to end at quarter past eleven. three students sat tapping their pencils on their chins, waiting for those few minutes to pass. the rest of the kids wanted those minutes to stretch themselves well into the afternoon. the clock was unyielding. 11:11


The author's comments:

i was inspired to write this when my friend and i were making a wish at 11:11 and she said "i wish it was always 11:11, so i could always make wishes" i agreed, but it wasn't that simple

This is a great concept! Sometimes, the little things are those which lead to the best ideas for writing. Be careful to proofread, but well done!
