I stood in the center of the garden; smelling the fresh air. The air’s fragrance contained a hint of blackberries that I had eaten today. It had been a week since the last memory I had witnessed. Ever since then, I’d been wandering around the institution place. The only place I went to countless times was the library. It had millions of books with a variety of genres. They had many books about Greek Mythology, mysteries, the universe and many other topics, but had a ton of books about the mind and how it works, witchcraft, potions and etc. I would read a bunch of books about the minds and witchcraft stuff. Most of the mind books practically explained that the mind was a very complex system. The witchcraft books talked mostly about magic. Almost all the books just told of safety and needing a certificate that legally allows you to use magic. There was only one part that interested me the most.
It read, “There are times when you can grant a warlock to erase their own memory. When the warlock erases your memory, the only problem would be the pain that inflicts them after. You would go through the case of mental breakdowns, intense headaches and very little sleep. This would happen because your brain is trying to reconnect the erased memories. To keep this magic on you, you would have to visit that same warlock every two months so he can recast the spell, and also so you will not slowly start to remember those memories. Even after twenty years of visiting the warlock the pain will still go on.
There is a difference though if you have a child’s memory erased. If the child is under ten, then the child will not go through the pain other people over ten would. The difficulty is that the warlock will have to erase their whole memory. So sadly the child will not remember anything before ten or whatever their age. The child does not have to visit the warlock until her fourteenth birthday. If she doesn’t visit the warlock by that age, then all her memories will come back to her slowly. When that happens, the child will begin to have unparalleled headaches, chills and mild coughing. The chills and coughing will began when their five year old memory begins. They will not leave until their seven year old memories end. The unparalleled headaches will also begin when their five year memories begin, but the headaches will end in the end of their six year old memories.
Memory erase is a pain to bear with, child or up. It must be treated with extreme care when the spells are being cast. If the spell goes wrong or the person does not listen to the procedures, then there is a chance that…”
Then the rest of the pages were ripped out. I would have read another book, but soon I was called to dinner by Nick. After dinner, I went to bed and stayed in there all next day. I continued to think about the page I had been reading. It was so fascinated and frightening with all the facts and warning about memory erasing. For a few more days, my mind was on the memory erasing, but soon it was off my mind when nick showed me the garden a day ago. He had just come up to me and asked if I had wanted rest in fresh air. I looked at him with curiosity, nodding my head as well. I followed him out the back way of the institution. We walked down a stone pathway going downhill. It took a while before we got to a dead end…or at least it looked like a dead end. Nick poked the bushes and thorns. About a minute later, he gently pulled a light pink rose at the right end of the bushes and thorns. For a minute nothing happened. Then a small, bright, silver star appeared at the top of the rose. It spiraled around the rose three times raining down blue sparkles all over it. When the star had finished spiraling around the rose, it slowly appeared back at the top of the rose. The star slowly began to disappear. When it fully disappeared, the rose sunk into the bushes and thorns and the thorns slowly began to transform into an archway. The bushes then became the ivy that wrapped around the archway. Then the stone pathway continued past the archway and led into a beautiful garden.
I stood there amazed with the magic that had just happened. Nick walked past the archway and stared back at me. The twinkle in his eyes was as bright as the star that circled around the rose. I smiled hugely. Then I followed him into the garden. When I saw the garden closer up, my jaw dropped.
The garden was vast. There was a huge water fountain in the middle it. The water shinned from the sun’s light. It was crystal blue water. I went up to the fountain; cupping my hands, and drank some of the water. The fountain’s water was purer than any water I had ever tasted. I wanted to take another drink, but I got distracted by many other things in the garden. Just past the fountain to the left there was a statue of a girl. The statue was gray, but I could still tell some features of it. The girl was on her knees. Her arms clinging tight around herself like she was freezing. Her hair was over her left shoulder and looked stiff; as if the wind was piercing cold and just glued her hair together. Her expression was empty, but there was one tear that was on her right cheek. Her mouth was shut. I looked towards Nick, “ What is this statue about?” Nick didn’t answer my question, but stared at me. Chills ran through my spine for a minute. Soon it went away and I continued to look around the garden. There were azaleas, daffodils and other flowers I couldn’t name. The smell of the garden was relaxing. There was a hint of blackberry fragrance, but it mostly smelled of honeysuckles and lilies. There was a mini pond to the right of the angel statue. In the mini pond, there were lily pads, drifting forget-me-nots, small orange carps and a small frog on top of a lily pad. I sat down watching the carp swim around the pond. Soon after it started to get late, and nick had to persuade me to leave.
I left the garden. When I arrived back to my room, I crashed onto the bed and missed breakfast and lunch. Nick came to my room and woke me up. After that, I told him I was going to the garden again, and to tell everyone I was going to stay in my room all day and to not disturb me. Nick nodded his head and I went to the stone pathway, found the pink rose and then entered into the garden.
~(^.^)~
It was hours later when finally I returned back to earth from thinking about what had happened yesterday. Yesterday was amazing with finding out about this place. I really never wanted to leave. It was like a place where I could stay and find peace inside myself. I breathed in deeply and then let out a relaxed sigh. Then I sat down on the grass. I picked a forget-me-not and began plucking the petals and watching the petal drift to the ground gracefully. When the flower was without petals, I began to split the stem into pieces and drop them to the ground. After I had done that, I laid down in the grass, watching the sky and thinking about finishing this memory recovery.
Then my thoughts were interrupted by someone calling my name. I shot up from the grass and ran behind the fountain. I didn’t want to leave, but I knew that I was going to leave whether I wanted to leave or not. Nick was at the archway. His eyes weren’t with their regular sparkle. I felt frightened under his presence. I had goosebumbs all over my arms. I knew immediately that something wasn’t right. I slowly walked away from the fountain. Nick’s eyes followed me as I walked up to him. His expression was even colder up close. Nick didn’t speak to me, but before he turned around. Nick glanced at the statue of the girl on her knees. Then he sharply turned around and headed up the stone path. I followed him.
When we were at least five yards away from the institution, I stopped following Nick. In a few seconds, Nick realized I wasn’t following him anymore and he stopped, too. Nick turned around and looked at me; not with hate, but with trouble on his mind. I waited for a minute before I spoke. Then I asked, “ Nick, are you alright?” He looked at me and answered with sarcasm, “??????, ?? Clementine. Of course, Clementine.” I looked at him oddly. Then I asked, “ Oh, Nick. Please don’t use sarcasm on me. I know you aren’t ok, I can see it in your eyes. Now what’s wrong?” Nick sighed deeply. This time his stare was less stern. It didn’t bring so many chills to me as before, but there were still chills running through myself. Nick mumbled to himself in Greek. Then he began talking.
“??? ?????…here it goes… It was right after I had walked you to your room. I wanted to visit the garden one more time before the sun set because when the sun set the garden disappeared. So I went back to the garden and did all the entry procedures. I entered the garden and to my surprise. There was a girl sitting in front of the fountain. Her back was turned away from me and facing the fountain. I slowly walked up to her; the leaves softly crunching under my feet. When I was only a yard away from the girl, she turned around. She didn’t gasp or anything. The girl wore a pink sundress. The straps contained lace in the middle it. Her dress was very dressy, even for a sundress. The dress had a faint design of roses. Her shoes were also pink. At the tip of her shoes was a bouquet of small well detailed flowers. The girl’s hair was brunette. Her eyes were the color of the ocean. Her cheeks were rosy red, and her smile warmed me inside, but what chilled me was that her lips were bluer than the deepest depth of the ocean. She stared at me for another few moments. Then she said, ‘Good evening, Nick.’ I stood there confused. So I asked how she knew my name. She answered by saying that I would learn soon. She came up to me and gave me a hug. I spazzed out for a second, and then felt a chilling wind pass through me. It had felt like a knife had passed through me. Then I passed out.
The next thing I know is that I’m in the same garden, except that it is high noon and not evening. I sit up and look around. About three feet away from me, there was a family in front of me. There was a woman, a man, a young boy and a young girl. The women seemed to be the mother. She had hazel eyes. Her hair was blonde-ish brown. She had a smile that brightened the whole atmosphere. The mother wore a blue full gown sundress. The dress’s sleeves, neckline and bottom of the dress had a sort of swirly design. Her shoes were one inch blue heels. At the
toe-end of the shoes, there was a square shaped diamond. The man I guessed was the father. He had ocean blue eyes. His hair was a sort of brunette color. He wore a brown dress suit. His black shoes gleamed in the sun because they were waxed. The young boy had darkish brown hair. He wore a black dress coat, white t-shirt under it and had black dress shoes. The young girl the same dress like the girl I had seen before. I stood there confused for a second, but then forgot about it. I began to listen into their conversation.
‘Mama, what are we doing tomorrow?’ asked the young girl.
The mother smiled, ‘Why, Crystalline, don’t you know what we are going to do?’ Crystalline shook her head. The young boy started to laugh, ‘I know, mama and papa!” The father chuckled, ‘Then what are we going to be doing tomorrow, ?????????’ I zoned out completely; millions of thoughts rushing through my head about what just happened. So this is a memory. Memories just like Clementine had, except this is for me. More thoughts rushed into my mind. A few minutes later, I zoned back in. This time something bad was about to happen. I could feel it because of the wind. Odd huh?”
Nick looked at me and I shook my head, “ Not really…I’m used to having those odd moments now.” Nick slightly smiled at me. Then he continued speaking.
“ The clouds began to darken to almost pitch black. The wind began to pick up speed. The temperature dropped to at least thirty degrees. Dirt flew everywhere. The plants began to come up from the ground. They flew around everyone and most everything. The father picked ???????? up from where he was and ran off. He ran out of the garden and into safety. The mother was lost in her mind. She looked like she didn’t know what to do. Without thinking, the mother left without getting Crystalline. When the mother passed the archway, the archway turned back into thorns and bushes, so Crystalline was trapped in the garden. Crystalline wrapped her arms around herself and dropped to her knees crying. Her tears streaked down her face rapidly. During her crying, the temperature dropped even lower than before. It was at least twenty degrees now. The wind began to swirl around her. The wind felt like a knife going right through you and coming out again. It was almost like a needle, but a sharper edge. A minute later the temperature dropped again. This time is was at least ten degrees. Crystalline kneeled there frozen. Her last tear before the temperature froze was on her right cheek. Her hair was now also frozen on her shoulder. There was frost all over her hair. Her lips were bluer than the deepest depth of the ocean. I knew that she couldn’t see me or she would have ran over to me for help before the temperature dropped, but I walked up to the dying Crystalline and looked into her eyes.
Her eyes were not the pretty ocean blue like they were before. They were a lifeless gray. I could see by her eyes that her life was draining right before me. Crystalline stared at me, too, and said struggling, ‘????????, I…I am ha…happy that I wa…was finally able to… to… show you….your…your past. Thank….Thank you. Now…now…I ca...ca…can finally… re…rest…in…peace…knowing… that….that you…you know…of me. A…again… tha…thank you.’ Then Crystalline closed her eyes. The wind blew on her again. This time Crystalline didn’t shudder. She didn’t move at all. Her body stood still. Her knees did not shake nor did he head. Her lips stayed closed. Her hands stayed wrapped around her body. I tried to hold back the tears, but they ran down my face before I could hold myself back longer. I cried for my sister, Crystalline, because of the way she died. I stayed there on my knees crying my guts out.
I stayed there crying for what felt like hours, but in reality it was only a few minutes. After a few minutes of crying myself to death, the memory Crystalline that took me to this memory came up behind me. She placed her right hand on my left shoulder and said, ‘Death can be hard, even the harshest ones especially. Please do not cry over my death. I can now rest in peace because you have finally learned about this event. Do not worry, ????????. This is not the worst so far.’ I nodded my head. Then a blast of wind hit me. The hit felt like thousands of needles stabbing me. I fainted soon after. Then I woke back up here.”
It read, “There are times when you can grant a warlock to erase their own memory. When the warlock erases your memory, the only problem would be the pain that inflicts them after.
