This work was originally intended to become a realistic portrait of someone. I was working with ink to create the butterflies when my elbow knocked over the ink pot; dripped ink in splatters all across the canvas. As I stood there in horror at what had just happened, I slowly realized that it wasn't a disaster after all. I realized that as an artist I have the freedom to create beautiful accidents. And that is exactly what I did as I proceeded to splatter paint of all various colors onto the canvas.
