Half flash lighting is used to capture an arresting face of a mixed-race teen. The nature of the lighting reflects the "neither this nor that" gaze usually imposed onto mixed children. In lieu of this, the tentative look on the girl's face is all the more unnerving and arresting, prompting curiosity about and questioning of the mixed race experience.
