Description:
When I think of the Victorian era, I think of how people of society were expected to be perfect and uphold a sort of 'standard'. I did it in black and white because that seems to be the way the outside...(more »)

This is a very refined and intricate drawing. It's clear lines show the primness of the Victorian era. I liked it! I especially love her hat/veil and umbrella. Great piece! The More I look at it, the more I love it! The one thing I would suggest to make her look even more in that era, would be to thin here waist, because of the corsets they wore.

Thanks! Trust me, this took a while and the only reason it looks like it does is because I was too stubborn to give up! :D

Oops. I guess I forget that this is NOT a social network like facebook, and there is NO "like" button!

But if there was a "like" button, tealbird, you can trust that your attitude would be "liked" by a certain O Riet more than once! ;)

Thanks! I'm not a natural artist in the drawing department, so it took me a while to get it to what it is...

Great drawing, I really love the author's comment especially, I'm afraid that the drawing itself doesn't seem to make much of a statement, but your words really do.

I'm sorry that you failed to see my intentions, but the piece wasn't meant to make you go 'wow', it was meant to make you go 'hmmm'. The statement I was trying to make was that people in the Victorian era were often confined by a highly critical society-a society where they were more about conforming and doing what was expected of them instead of turning heads with individuality. I found that lifestyle dull, which is why I created the image the way I did-giving it a 'wow factor' would draw ... (more »)

But pictures are supposed to be worth a thousand words; if you wish to make a statement with a drawing, you really shouldn't have to explain it very much.

I was also told by an experienced artist who always said that if your piece didn't have a story behind it, it was just pretty garbage. And, well, I'm following his advice.

Think of those modern artists who make complete and utter chaos... No one would be able to understand it if not for the explanation that was provided.

And therein lies the gold.

Without those words, the art would be junk. I think it's artistry in itself when one is able to weave words with a picture or sculpture.

I, myself, choose simple words to define my art. tealbird, on the other hand, paired it with lovely words to make the picture shine.
