I think that if I had brought home a book called Chicken Soup for the Preteen Soul when I was
12, I would not have been allowed to read it. A book subtitled 101 Stories
of Changes, Choices and Growing Up for Kids Ages 9-13, with sections on
family, love, death and dying, would have been snatched out of my hands with the
comment, "You might get the wrong ideas from a book like this." Same with
Teen Ink, a collection of stories and poems written by and for teens and
published in the magazine by the same name...

Moving, refreshing works by real teens,

I was really astounded when I picked up Teen Ink for the first time. Put plainly, Teen Ink
is the only book out there that gives teens a place to share what's most meaningful to
them - from touching stories about the loss of family members or friends to those light,
heady tales of a first kiss. With poems, art and photography from teens to boot, it has,
for lack of a better expression, everything!
So many books for teenagers are written by adults with good intentions who,
unfortunately, are trapped in a one-sided view of teen life -- Teen Ink is definitely NOT
one of them. Teen Ink is so amazing because it releases both its authors and readers
alike from preconcieved expections of how teens should think and what they should say.
The results are magnificent--the teen authors write with a surprising insightfulness about
their world.
Parents and teens alike will find the book a moving reminder about what life is all about.
I know I did.
Teens speak to other Teens

I may be a little biased because I wrote one of the stories, but this book is amazing.
Finally a book that lets teens share their stories with other teens. I wish something like
this had been around when I was a teen. My story was written eight years ago when I
thought I was the only one feeling the way I did. This book lets teens know that they are
not alone and there are others that are out there feeling the same way. I really loved
reading all the different stories, some made me laugh, some made me sniffle but all
made me feel I was not alone thru those painful years.
Compelling true stories by teens for teens

This absorbing collection of teenage tales is gripping and emotional. There's no adult
filter to distance the reader from writers who have experienced pain, loss, love, and all
the challenges of contemporary teenage experience. Teens will read the book
cover-to-cover at one sitting because they won't be able to put it down. I recommend it
to parents and teachers as a mightily effective way to recapture a vision of the world from
a teen perspective. The visceral moments are sometimes scary, often sad, and always
revealing. The one hundred selections culled from hundreds of thousands of submissions
to TeenInk magazine during the last decade are powerful and well written. This book will
make me a better parent.
An impressive collection of teen writing

When I finally got my copy of TeenInk: our voices, our visions I sat down on the couch
and dove in to this compilation of nonfiction, poetry and fiction. I didn't get up again
until I read the last page. Wow! Every story rang true; this is an unprecedented collection
of teen voices. With chapters on friends, fitting in, love, challenges, family, heroes, loss
and memories, the book touches every aspect of teen life. IT'S NOT GOOPY! Some
stories are very touching, even emotional, but nothing is sugar-coated. This is mature,
intelligent writing from young people who have both a firm grasp on life and are,
sometimes, just hanging on.
Buy it, read it, read it again... My Christmas shopping will be easy this year.

A beautiful book.
Ed, November 28, 2000
Teen Ink is truly a standout as one of the best collection of writings by young adults ever produced. The one
hundred-plus authors and artists in the book are honest and very real, and the compliers of the book do an
admirable job allowing teenagers of all stripes to describe the ups and downs of their world through their
own words. You'll be shocked at how movingly and clearly teens can express themselves when someone
wants to listen . . . Teen Ink is a great gift for teens, families, friends, educators and anyone who wants to
witness the future and reflect on the past all at once. A beautiful book, indeed.
More than immediately meets the eye
Veronica,an English major, November 16, 2000
If you're thinking this is more Chicken Soup, just with a different title, you're wrong - Teen Ink is better.
Despite an unfortunately frivolous cover, the pages inside are brimming with serious talent, quality writing
and amazing tales from the heart of the teen years. The variety of topics is quite impressive, so there really
is something for everyone. If you're wondering what it will be like to be a teen, trying to remember what it
was like to be a teen or care at all about the young people of today and the world tomorrow, read Teen Ink,
and share it with others. It's an astounding discovery.
A true sparkling gem for teens, parents, and educators!
Dana,a graduate student in Texas, October 24, 2000
Okay, once in a while I pick up a book and just CANNOT put it down. TeenInk is that kind of book. I
stayed in my pijamas all day long and just sat in awe reading brilliant and eloquently written words. This is a
phenomenal book that will touch the heart of any reader. There is something in here for everyone with which
to relate. I could not believe the insight of all the teenage authors. WOW!!! The universality of the emotions
displayed in TeenInk's pages is truly eye-opening. I strongly recommend this book for any soon-to-be teen,
teenager, parent, educator, or anyone with daily contact with teenagers. This is clearly teenage writing at its
finest.
A moving compilation of teenage tales written by teens
A reviewer a writer and mother of two teens., October 5, 2000
These gripping selections on loss, friendship, challenges, and fitting in are culled from the more than 300,000
submissions received by Teen Ink magazine in the last decade. As a former high school teacher, now the
parent of two teens, I found the book riveting in its honesty, immediacy, and quality of writing. With no
adult filter between writer and reader, the true experiences yank the reader into the world of today's teens.
Teens will consume the dramatic stories faster than french fries. I found the deeply felt outpourings to be
sometimes scary, often sad, and always revealing. This book will help me to be a better parent.
