"No one knows teens better than teens
themselves. I was struck by the honesty of the writing in this work. This is a
truly valuable book for every teenager. And every parent."
Todd Strasser, author
of Help I'm Trapped series
"Just when you think we have reason to fear the
future, pick up this book and see what the hopes, dreams, and courage of young
people can do for the soul." Bill Moyers, Broadcast Journalist
"Warning -
Teen Ink will expose you to the thoughts and feelings of real teens who are good
and sensitive and intelligent and brave and truthful. It is not for the faint of
heart. Be prepared for reality literature ... that will make your heart sing."
Cathy Greenwood, Educator
Teen Ink: Our Voices, Our
Visions is a compilation of some of the most heartfelt and compelling pieces
published in Teen Ink Magazine over the last eleven year. Pieces were selected
from 300,000 student submissions with over 3,400 teenagers in 44 states
evaluating the final selections for this book.
The book includes 350 pages
filled with personal essays, stories, poems, art and photography - created
entirely by teens. Chapters include Friends, Family, Fitting In, Challenges,
Heroes, Loss, Memories, Love and Creativity. Teen readers will see themselves and
their world reflected here. In addition, parents, grandparents, teachers and
other caring adults will relish these inspired pieces.
Teen Ink
illustrates the depth of teenage talent, emotion and imagination. This collection
of prose and poetry represents the honest and compelling moments that define
their lives. The stories are well-crafted and filled with feelings derived from
real-life events - emotions not of the surface, but of the soul. These pieces
will stick with you - at times even leaving you in tears, or having you ponder
their not-so-obvious conclusions. You may think about your own life, and remember
times when you had similar reactions, also perhaps wondering how you would make
it to the next day.
Teenagers seek out books that speak to them in unique
and meaningful ways. Over the past eleven years, millions of teenagers have found
a voice in the pages of Teen Ink Magazine. Now, with the release of Teen Ink: Our
Voices, Our Visions, many more will be introduced to Teen Ink as a forum for
their deepest concerns, fears and dreams. They will see that the difficulties of
life are not only universal, but conquerable, and they will understand that in a
world of seemingly never-ending obstacles, they are never as alone as they once
thought.
All proceeds from the sale of the book go to The Young Authors
Foundation to support reading, writing and publishing opportunities for young
adults.
Available at bookstores nationwide and online.
