Meet tomorrow's great writers - today
What is the future of literature?
Who will be tomorrow's great writers and poets? What captures the imagination of
young people and inspires them? In an era of cell phones and instant messages,
where we laugh with "LOL" and shout with "OMG," does language have a future?
Teen Ink: Written in the Dirt, the sixth book in
the immensely popular Teen Ink series, showcases the talents of young fiction
writers and poets. In this riveting collection, 125 teenage authors and artists
prove that creativity and love of language still flourish. These are truly works
of literature, all written by teens who may be the great writers of tomorrow.
For fifteen years, Teen Ink has given teens a
chance to express themselves through its monthly magazine and book series.
Previous books focus on nonfiction topics: what teens have to say about love,
life, school, friends, and important moments. Teen Ink: Written in the
Dirt exclusively features fiction and poetry, opening up not only teens'
experiences but also their imaginations.
Journey with these stories into a young mind's wildest
dreams. Travel from the empty room of the soul to the heat of a dragon's lair.
Visit worlds filled with joy, despair, humor and excitement. Let the beauty of
poetry inspire you, and let the music of words move you. All the originality of
the human imagination is here, with a fresh new perspective that could only come
from the next generation of authors and poets.
If you think that all the great writers have come and
gone, think again. This collection will amaze and inspire you with its power,
beauty, and above all imagination. This book proves that the world of literature
is still alive and well. Instead of looking back to what was written in the past,
you can see today what is Written in the Dirt.
Although this is the sixth book in this series, and the voices
change in each volume, much does remain constant. Like the others, every word you
find in Teen Ink: Written in the Dirt is written by teens. And, just like with
the other books, all royalties are donated directly to the nonprofit Young Authors
Foundation to offer opportunities for teenagers to express themselves.
John and Stephanie Meyer are founders of the Young Authors
Foundation, which publishes Teen Ink magazine. Stephanie Meyer, senior editor of the book and
magazine, holds masters' degrees in education and social work. John Meyer,
publisher of the magazine, holds an M.B.A. and has published two successful
business magazines.
