By Sam T., Fremont, OH

Carry on into the distance
Where thunder rumbles and lightning strikes
Across the stumbling plains of Montana
The air, fresh from rain, cool and crisp
Just right for the green to show
And the flowers to boast
Strewn across the green meadow
Are leaves of old, dead but promising
Renewed strength given to the trees
Standing centuries tall
While I, five years of age, compare
Time slows with sly grace
And tiptoes silently through
As the doe cowers and eats
And the squirrels clutch fallen walnuts
All keeping up in the chilly warmth of spring.
