The Lie

By EDITH D., Boston, MA

Although a love is strong

And grasps you by the hand

It can lead you in the wrong direction

Leaving you alone to stand

No one admitted there was a problem

Love made them ignore it

They said I was wrong

When I approached it

I wanted to help

I wanted to care

I wanted to love

But it just wasn't there

We live in silence

And the problem grows

Why we let it slip

No one knows

Someday it will be alright

But until then

I am a prisoner

of the ignorance

It's all a pack of lies

One we can't escape

Until the one we love

Dies

The Lie is a poem that I wrote about my father who is an alcoholic. I feel that writing this has allowed me to let go of many feelings and let me share them with those who have the same problem.
