I Walk Outside At Midnight

By Sarah S., Arlington, MA

I walk outside at midnight ...

Only to hear the waves crashing along the shore,

like a radio on a static station.

To see the moon's exquisite light reflecting off the ocean,

a giant light bulb.

The midnight sky looks as if someone has thrown glitter up,

and it never came down.

It is so beautiful.

I think I am the only one who is enjoying it now.

As the soft dunes embrace me into a peaceful slumber,

I mumble to myself some reminders for the morning.

To ...

Turn off the radio, clean up and turn off the light ...

But, of course, that is impossible,

for I am unable to reach the beauty of nature.
