By Sam E., Gilford, NH

after a cat's accidental brush
with a wire in the heart of the beast,
I am forced into an uncomfortable, angular embrace
with a computer tower.

an ear throbbing for bass
and trembling for treble
drives fondling fingers farther
in search for an unmated plug.

shoulders stretched and teeth clenched,
eyes sealed and digits attuned,
I am sorting ever deeper
through a tangled knot of cords.

no soundtrack for this epic struggle -
the static speakers speak of the cord the cat pulled.
groaning joints must fill the air,
and the music must play in my mind.
