By Mary W., Roseville, CA

The sky bleeds tonight
A crimson scar ruthlessly torn into the horizon
Ribbons of beautiful life
Unraveling from the wound
That bleeds the blood of autumn meadows
Colored by the blood of ripening cherries
Tinged with the blood of bluebells
A hazy rupture between land and sky
From which a million stories flow
Sometimes warm and comforting
Tasting of strawberries and honey
Sometimes cold and painful
Pricking the tongue with bitterness
But even heaven cannot bleed forever
And the colors soon seep away
The wound closes silently
Sealed by night’s black scab
And the blood
No longer
Runs
