Teen Ink Blogs

By Jessica R., Gilford, NH

Blackness surrounds me
as I grip the wheel tighter
Little glances in the mirror reveal shadows
of the past chasing me.
No matter how fast I go
the speedometer is never fast enough.
The mileage wears me down
more than my engine.
In the silence, memories mock me
“You’re just like her!”
“Things get tough and you run.”
But they just don’t understand
never being good enough.
The fear of making her mistakes
turns me into her.
Always running away
from the ones who love
no matter what,
from the problems
that always tailgate.
