Fear
Trembling while I cling to mymother's skirt
The halls so wide and endless
A fish in a school ofmany
But lost in a sea of numbers, letters and books
Slowlyswimming amidst the confusion

Pause
The door so large, souninviting
It stands there like a soldier standing guard
I, asmall child
Searching for security, love and acceptance
Shiveringat the thought of being alone

Turn
The knob turns opening theheavy door
Revealing a room full of children and color
My eyesglisten like water on a sunny day
Smiles, crayons and blocks asnumerous as stars in the sky
My grip loosens and my mother's handfalls to her side

Confidence
I hug my mothergood-bye
Letting her know I will be fine
I eagerly walk toward theother children
Accepted by the other children with timid smiles
Iturn, she sheds a tear - her baby is growing up
