By Haley V., Glendale, AZ

I would like to take my time and applaud Brittanie S. for her outstanding opinion submission entitled "Gay Marriage in the U.S." With a Catholic upbringing and attending Catholic schools have taught me why gay marriage is considered "wrong." I, however, hold fast to my opinion that gay marriage should not be against the law in this great nation of ours.

Do we not live in a country that promotes separation of church and state? A country where no mention of God is allowed in our public school system? Where the Ten Commandments cannot to be posted in courthouses? Then why should people's religious beliefs be allowed to influence our laws, especially ones that have the audacity to tell people whom they can love? The answer is: they should not.
