By Jessica B., Tallahassee, FL

Thank you, Tahlia, for writing “Homeschooled.” As a former homeschooler, I’ve seen the disgust and confusion that exists over this method of education. We homeschoolers are not all religious extremists, spelling bee champs or chess club elitists, but normal people trying something out of the box for our education. When some of my relatives learned I was going to be homeschooled, they were furious. They were certain I’d never get into college and would have to work for the minimum wage for the rest of my life. Wrong! My homeschooling earned me a full ride at my first-choice college.
