Teen Ink Blogs

By Carisa S., Wethersfield, CT

Your magazine touches on the topics teens deal with every day, like college applications as well as health and prejudice. But the way teens address these subjects makes it easier to relate to.

My favorite sections are poetry and Pride & Prejudice. I’m a poet and I fight prejudice every day. One article I especially liked was “Distant Photograph.” I can understand the need for someone to accept that they are okay just the way they are. I’m 100 percent Puerto Rican but with light skin and I don’t speak Spanish, so I often get mislabeled.

I’m not a skin color. I’m not just a girl with light brown skin, brown hair, and brown eyes. I’m Carisa, a girl who loves music, writing, love, and everything that spices up my life.
